MONDAY, JANUARY 23

DANCE FITNESS: The Joy of Motion Dance Center hosts two more free dance classes at The Kennedy Center this month, one on Monday and one on Sunday. Today, join a “Sass Jazz” dance fitness class led by Dani Quirion. (The Kennedy Center – Millennium Stage, 6 p.m. FREE)

SING-ALONG: This month’s group sing-along by A People’s Choir DC features a playlist of 21 motivational songs, including “We’re Not Gonna Take It, ” “Shake It Out,” and “Respect.” (DC9 Nightclub, 7:30-9:45 p.m. FREE)

SHOWTUNES: This month’s edition of theatreWashington’s monthly showTunes & Cocktails features two time Helen Hayes Award recipient. E. Faye Butler. Before she begins performing in Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street next week, E. Faye Butler will entertain guests as they sip on cocktails from Beacon Bar & Grill’s Happy Hour menu. Guests will also have the chance to enter ticket giveaways for several shows. (Beacon Bar & Grill, 7-10 p.m. FREE)

TUESDAY, JANUARY 24

PLAY: Watch a preview performance of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Edward Albee’s 1962 play about unraveling marriages. The production runs through February 19. (Ford’s Theatre, 7:30 p.m. $20-33)

MARTIAL ARTS FILM: The CAN I KICK IT? film series resumes with a screening of Police Story, the 1985 film starring Jackie Chan that spawned five sequels. As usual, the film will be accompanied by a soundtrack of hip-hop, funk, soul and cinema soundbites mixed live by DJ 2-Tone Jones. (Sonybyrd, upstairs, 7 p.m. FREE)

POLITICAL TALK: With a new president officially in office, this month’s Nerds in NoMa speaker series will try to answer the question, “How will the Trump presidency affect D.C. and the region?” Panelists include Dan Tangherlini (Seamless Docs), Chuck Bean (Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments), Dan Mindus (NextGen Venture Partners), and Emeka Moneme (Federal City Council). WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25

MEAT: Take your pick between a sausage making class and a butchering class. The former features instruction led by Via Umbria butcher Scott Weiss and visiting chef Simone Proietti-Pesci, followed by a tasting of sausage-based snacks. (Via Umbria, 7:30 p.m. $35) The latter will include instruction by butcher Greg Herring. Ticket prices include dinner by Sloppy Mama’s Barbeque and drinks from DC Brau, and the “Meat-Lover” tickets includes approximately 3lbs of meat for you to take home. (Mess Hall, 6:30-9:30 p.m. $55-85)

OPERA: How to Make Opera Non-Stuffy: Perform it at a bar. Opera on Tap is a non-profit organization whose mission is to break down the stereotype that opera is an elitist art form. The D.C. branch features local singers performing opera pieces at The Wonderland Ballroom. (8-10 p.m., donations encouraged)

BEST OF D.C. Washington City Paper is opening up voting for their annual awards. A voting party offers guests the chance to be the first to vote, plus drinks and small bites including crab cakes, mac and cheese bites, lamb chops, and more. (Bourbon, 5:30-7:30 p.m. $20)

PLAY READING: The Lillian Hellman Festival celebrates the iconic playwright, author and political activist with a series of seven free events from January 25-February 5. The first scheduled event is a reading of Toys in the Attic, the last full-length original play that Hellman wrote. (Arena Stage, 8 p.m. FREE, reservations required)

THURSDAY, JANUARY 26

MAGIC: Magician, comedian, and television personality Justin Willman performs three shows at Drafthouse Comedy this weekend. (7 p.m. $25)

IMPROV: Give the rookies a chance. Their stage is set, now they just need an audience.Rep Stage is a monthly showcase of budding improv stars, with this month’s show featuring two groups: Tupperware and Pizza Party. (The Unified Scene Theatre, 8-9 p.m. FREE)

PANCAKES AND BOOZE AND ART: This isn’t your average gallery show. Instead of wine and cheese and standing around, attendees of the Booze and Pancakes Art Show are treated to cocktails, pancakes, and live DJs (and the work of 100 artists) at Ivy City’s Big Chief. (2002 Fenwick Street NE, $10 in advance, $5 at the door)

LAUNCH PARTIES: D.C. is still adding coworking spaces. MakeOffices invites you to check out their newest location on K Street. Guests will enjoy cocktails and small bites from Blackfinn Ameripub, Wicked Waffle, Skwr, and and Moxie’s DX.
