Clutching every bit of good news before someone wrests it out of our hands along with the EPA’s climate data, we bring you word that a baby seal has been born at the National Zoo.
A few hours before the Women’s March, 33-year-old Kara gave birth to a female pup. Zookeepers say she is “nursing, moving and bonding well with mom,” and are “cautiously optimistic” that the 37-pound babe will thrive. This is the third pup for Kara and 26-year-old Gunther.
She’ll shed her fur in about three weeks time and develop a mottled gray coat, the zoo says.
Let’s all just look into the eyes of this pure creature for a little while and remember there is good in the world before we dive back into reality.
If you need to delay a little while longer, check out the brewing Twitter war between the Zoo and the Virginia Aquarium over who has the cutest baby animals.
