The prospect of the White House Correspondents Dinner this year is particularly nauseating.

There are strong arguments against the dinner’s existence every year—the New York Times, for instance, doesn’t allow its journalists to attend—but a notoriously thin-skinned president joking around with journalists when his top advisor just said the media should “keep its mouth shut” and the White House spokesperson used his first time at the lectern to berate and lie to the press is even more morally murky than usual.

So to have an event where journalists covering the president shmooze with him in black tie is almost as ironic as a museum dedicated to the freedom of the press hosting a lavish party for a man who vilifies the media!

That’s why Samantha Bee is hosting an alternate event the same night in D.C. called “Not The White House Correspondents Dinner,” as the New York Times reports.

Bee and the team from her TBS show “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” are scheduling the event for April 29, the same night as the real shebang, though “We’re not trying to supercede it,” she said to the Times. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.”

She told the Times that they’ve been tossing around the idea of an alternative WHCD since the election. “We were talking out loud about whether we thought the White House Correspondents’ dinner would change during a Trump presidency, or if it would even exist,” she said. “And then we thought, Why don’t we just do one, just to do it in the way that we would want it done if we were hosting it?”

The White House Correspondents Association, which hosts the dinner, has not announced its host yet.

Trump has attended the dinner in the past. Some accounts place his roasting at the hands of President Barack Obama in 2011 as his impetus for running for president in the first place.

Former “Apprentice” villain and current White House staffer Omarosa Manigault told Frontline before the election that when she saw Obama “hammer” Trump, she thought, “Oh, Barack Obama is starting something that I don’t know if he’ll be able to finish.”

“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump,” Manigault said. “It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, who ever disagreed, who ever challenged him. It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”
