Ms. Lauryn Hill headlines Warner Theatre on Thursday.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15
The Radio Dept., German @ Black Cat. 7:30 P.M. $18. All ages, accessible venue.
The Swedish dream pop band, The Radio Dept., started in 2001. Like many bands, they signed to a label and thought everything was great. After the band finished touring their third album ,Clinging to a Scheme, the members finally decided to take a look at their contract and what they saw upset them. The Radio Dept. took its label, Labrador, to court, sparking a period of inactivity. The group ultimately lost the suit, but Labrador agreed to free the band from its obligations if it released one more album on the label. That recording, 2016’s Running Out of Love, is rife with disappointment. The songs address not only the band’s situation, but also the current political climate and the rise of the right wing. The Radio Dept. used to employ more guitars, but has elevated synths on recent albums in the vein of New Order.
