The early bird gets the worm chicken
Fast-casual poultry joint The Chickery (1300 Connecticut Ave. NW) is aiming to entice the early lunch crowd on Tuesday, Feb. 21 Feb. 28 with a special “Beat the Flock” power hour from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Here’s the deal: Buy any side for $3.45 (options include things like dirty rice, street corn, fries, and mac and cheese) and you’ll get four free chicken fingers. A four-piece order on its own is $9.95, so don’t feel bad about giving in to that appetite before midday rolls around.
Philly pizza, D.C. beer
Philadelphia import Pizzeria Vetri (2221 14th St. NW) has teamed up with Bluejacket brewery for a menu and tap takeover through February 19. Dishes will include a limited edition rotolo (a sort of garlic knot-like creation) with Boursin cheese, beech mushrooms, leeks, pickled onion, and chive aioli. In true D.C. fashion, there will also be a Mumbo chicken pizza, prepared topped with smoked mozzarella, scallions, red cabbage, and chilies. Bluejacket’s beers will include Full Fathom Five double IPA, Shaking Through tripel, Mexican Radio spiced stout, and the It’s Me, Not You pale ale. All will be available until supplies run out.
Joselito rolls out daily menu deals
Joselito (660 Pennsylvania Ave. NW) has quickly become a Capitol Hills go-to for Spanish cuisine. The restaurant, which opened in early January, is now rolling out a $25 three-course lunch menu (pick from a choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert) as well as daily meal specials. Examples include fisherman’s rice on Mondays, lentil and Iberico meat stew on Tuesdays, and tuna and potato stew on Friday.

Get schooled on Mid-Atlantic wine
Head over to Vinoteca (1940 11th St. NW) on February 21 for a class focused on the ins and outs of Mid-Atlantic wines. The evening will focus on grapes from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Tickets are $55 plus fees and include four to six and a plate of bites from chef Anna Miller.
Openings:
In a win for caffeine lovers, a new location of La Colombe in D.C. will open by the end of February. The roaster’s fifth District location will open near Farragut Square at 1710 I St. NW. An exact date has not been announced, but hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The shop will partner with The Sweet Lobby on pastries, breads, and sweets.
Plan ahead:
Zentan (1155 14th St. NW) and Sushi Taro (1503 17th St. NW) are collaborating to bring a slice of Japan to D.C. on March 15. The “Streets of Osaka” evening will transform Zentan into a street festival atmosphere with food stalls (expect plenty of fried and grilled skewers), shochu and sake, sumo watching, music, and chef demonstrations. The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. tickets are $60 for VIPs and $45 for general admission.
