The Prince George’s County Police Department has announced the arrest of two teenagers connected to the fatal shooting of Douglas Brooks, an up-and-coming rapper who went by the stage name “Swipey.”
Police arrested 19-year-old Diante Brewer, of Southwest, and 18-year-old Deshawn Watkins, of Southeast.
Police suspect the teens planned to rob Brooks and others who were at a party in an apartment complex in Suitland, Md. on August 21. Around 1:05 a.m., police were called the scene for a shooting and found Brooks outside suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead on the scene, and later mourned by locals including rapper Wale, who he’d performed alongside.
“He was a good guy, he was a nice guy, he never tried to start no trouble,” Brooks’s mother, Freda, told The Washington Post at the time. “I’m crying. I’m crying because I love my son.”
The case is still under investigation, and detectives believe there are additional suspects.
His last release was his first solo tape, called SNS (Sorry Not Sorry), which came out in July.
