Japandroids plays 9:30 Club tonight.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28

Japandroids and Craig Finn & the Uptown Controllers @ 9:30 Club. 7 P.M. $25. All ages, accessible venue.

Japandroids toured a lot following the release of their breakout album, Celebration Rock, in 2012. For almost two years, the band played stages big and small, only to disappear at the end of 2013. Fans waited four years with nary a peep, but Japandroids was recording in secret. The resulting album, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, released this year, isn’t the barnstormer that Celebration Rock was, but it advances the Japandroids sound. The eight song recording adds instruments like acoustic guitars and synthesizers. Japandroids sold out 9:30 last night but there are tickets available tonight.

You Blew It!, All Get Out, and Free Throw @ Rock and Roll Hotel. 7 P.M. $13. All ages, accessible venue.

You Blew It! is one of the faces in the emo revival. The group’s first two albums were full of explosive songs that got them on bills with bands like Taking Back Sunday, but with its latest album, Abendrot, the band has taken cues from a different side of 90’s emo. Abendrot is darker and slower, but still propulsive. The hooks are large, but the songs do not revolve around them. You Blew It! has successfully grown up from its older material.

Howard Theatre: Ja Rule, Tray Chaney. 8 P.M. $26 – $60. All ages, accessible venue.

SATURDAY, MARCH 4

Bellows, Foozle, and Palette @ Comet Ping Pong. 10 P.M. $12. All ages, accessible venue.

Oliver Kalb is the leader behind the indie-pop band Bellows. Part of the Epoch collective which also calls the bands Florist, Eskimeaux, and Todd Slant as members, Bellows has released three full-length albums, including last year’s stunning Fist & Palm. Taking cues from Mount Eerie, Bellows builds epic lo-fi tracks and Fist & Palm is Kalb’s best work yet. The album documents a friendship falling apart, taken from both sides and not just that of the narrator. The album manages to remain uplifting despite the emotional subject matter.
