The FBI used social media postings in its investigation to track down Poalo Aldorasi, a 34-year-old man who police arrested last week in connection to the kidnapping of a Georgetown student, according to WTOP.

The student told police that Aldorasi abducted him up on a residential street in Georgetown on January 26, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney General’s office for D.C. FBI agents arrested him on February 24 in Washington state.

Officials told WTOP that they linked Aldorasi to his rental car using a video that he shared on social media, and they were able to track him to the Seattle area by following other postings of his on social media.

Aldorasi is from London, and authorities describe the student as a Korean man who speaks limited English, according to charging documents obtained by WTOP.

The student told investigators that Aldorasi pulled up beside him in an SUV as he was walking on the street and ordered him to get inside the vehicle, asked for money, and drove him to four ATM machines and two stores. The student said the abduction lasted about two hours—police released surveillance footage from parts of it in January. The student said that after all attempts at getting money failed, Aldorasi released him unharmed, and he called the police.

Aldorasi appeared in federal court in Washington state on Monday, and he has another hearing today, according to the release.
