Metropolitan Police Department officers have arrested a man in connection to the killing of a security guard outside of a Burlington Coat Factory store on Saturday in Woodbridge, Va.

After receiving a tip that he was in the District, D.C. police located and arrested 35-year-old Jamel Carlos Kingsbury today, according to a release from the Prince William County Police Department.

The incident began when Kingsbury was observed shoplifting inside of the store, which is located at Potomac Mills Mall, according to police. The security guard and another employee confronted Kingsbury as he left the building and a struggled ensued.

Police say Kingsbury stabbed the guard, who has been identified as 44-year-old Larry Donnell. He was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The other employee was left unharmed, and no other injuries were reported.

Prince William County Police say they arrived on the scene around 2:30 p.m., conducted an extensive search around the area, but couldn’t locate Kingsbury, who fled after the stabbing.

As of Saturday, Donnell was the third homicide victim in the county this year, according to the release. Kingsbury will stay in D.C. police custody pending extradition back to Virginia.
