The Dubliner is continuing tradition with dirt cheap pints of Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day morning.

It’s all green and pink this week as we celebrate both the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and the wonders of Japan as the cherry blossoms come to D.C. early this year. Here are our top food and drink picks for the next week:

This week’s food events

Yozakura nights at The Royal

Head over to The Royal (501 Florida Ave. NW) on Monday, March 13 for your own miniature cherry blossom festival. The establishment will be decorated with twinkly lights and homemade origami in honor of yozakura, the celebrated nighttime viewing of the cherry blossoms that happens every year in Japan. Guest bartender Eddie Kim will be bringing the theme to the drink menu with an assortment of specialty cocktails infused with the flavors of smoked cherry wood, cherry bark bitters, cherry blossom tea, cherry-flavored bourbon, and orchard cherry liquors. The event will run from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Drink specials are $8.

Getting hairy at Boundary Stone

If you’re feeling generous or need a good haircut this weekend, Boundary Stone Bar and Public House (116 Rhode Island Ave. NW) is the place to be. Starting at 3 p.m., local teams will be competing to raise donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation before taking their turn in the barber’s chair offered generously by event partner Barber of Hell’s Bottom (818 Rhode Island Ave. NW). The ceremonial shaves will be accompanied by food and drink specials as well as a silent auction that includes a trip to Ireland and a private in-home dinner cooked by Mike Friedman of All Purpose.

Cheap breakfast beers at The Dubliner

The Dubliner Irish pub (4 F St. NW) is in its 43rd year of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Per usual, it will open it’s doors at 9 a.m. on Friday for $0.43 Guinness pints until 10 a.m. The party continues all day with a full menu and three different live bands.

Sushi doughnuts and a rooftop

Nothing goes together quite like rooftop views and sushi donuts, at least according to the creative folks at DNV Rooftop (1155 14th St. NW). This season’s hottest dish on Instagram is now available as a special at DNV’s on-site sister restaurant, Zentan, every Saturday night in March for $12. A different version will be featured each week, while supplies last. When the warmer weather finally comes to stay it will be a permanent menu item at the DNV rooftop.

Openings:

The season for outdoor brews and bonding is back at Dacha Beer Garden (1600 7th St. NW). Stop by the Shaw hangout for a revamped food menu as well as a bigger selection of local and international beers and wines. Don’t forget to hit up their spectacular Happy Hour between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays; Monday specials feature oysters and wine while sales on Tuesdays go to a good cause.

The latest D.C. location of Shake Shack is scheduled to open in Logan Circle (1400 14th St. NW) this Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. It’s the ninth location of the burger chain in the area.

Plan Ahead

Art & Soul (415 New Jersey Ave. NW) is hosting a Brewers’ Choice Dinner on Friday, March 24 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The six-course dinner will feature six beers from six different breweries. The $70 menu includes interesting combinations such as roasted diver scallops paired with Dogfish Head’s Beer to Drink Music To and smoked Scotch egg and confit pork belly with 3 Stars Funkyard Dog. The full menu can be viewed here and tickets to the event can be purchased here.

Dine-N-Dash, Chef José Andrés’ annual fundraiser for World Central Kitchen, is back this year and already promising the participation of 30 of D.C.’s best restaurants and appearances by an array of national food peeps like Andrew Zimmern. Although the event isn’t on until June 7, you can already buy your tickets ($125-$400) online, and they’re $20 off during March.
