American University police are searching for this man in connection to misogynistic fliers.
The evening before International Women’s Day, when many women participated in a nationwide strike, someone distributed fliers denigrating women around American University. Campus police are investigating and have released photos of a person of interest in the case.
The American University Police Department said they were posted around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night in at least four locations, including several academic buildings. The provost and vice president for student life called them “misogynistic, disrespectful, and divisive” in an email to students.
Fox5 described one of the posters as an image of a man in a suit telling women to “stop talking” and “make me a sandwich.”
Campus police directed questions to American University’s media relations department. A spokesperson was unable to say if the case had been referred to MPD or if campus police believe the person of interest is affiliated with the university. It is also unclear if investigators believe the person is dangerous or a threat. “It wasn’t part of the crime alert. It’s a current investigation,” said AU spokesperson Natasha Abel.
