Top Chef alum Kwame Onwuachi has been relatively quiet since closing his ambitious restaurant The Shaw Bijou in January after just a few months in business. But in a recent online interview with Bravo, chef Onwuachi spilled some ever-so-vague details about his future plans—and they don’t involve any pricing tasting menus.

Onwuachi told Bravo that he’s started a restaurant group and that he hopes “to open up two restaurants in the next two years.” Details are scant, but he teased that he’s toying with two concepts: one will be a fast-casual spot and the other will focus on a la carte modern American restaurant.

It remains to be seen if he’ll set up shop in D.C. or elsewhere. Reached for additional comment, Onwuachi declined to disclose any more information about the restaurants’ location or menus, teasing only that he expects to be able to share in the near future.

Whatever the new restaurants are, Onwuachi no doubt learned a tough lesson with meteoric rise and fall of The Shaw Bijou, which had a short lifespan after opening in November 2016. That was due in large part to its hefty price tag of $185 per person before tax, tip, and wine. Still, we found the food to be excellent and chef Onwuachi remains a force in the kitchen to keep tabs on.
