D.C. Police arrested a man who allegedly kidnapped an 11-year-old girl from her home in Charlotte, North Carolina yesterday. Curtis Atkinson Jr. is also suspected of murdering his parents Sunday morning.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department tweeted an amber alert for Arieyana Simone Forney at 6:55 p.m. on Sunday.

About an hour later, Charlotte officials said a female inside of a 2005 white Chevrolet Impala called police and said she’d been kidnapped and gave her location in the District, according to the Charlotte Observer. D.C. Police identified the vehicle that matched the description, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department. Police chased the car until it crashed near the Tidal Basin at the 1500 block of Maine Avenue SW.

D.C. police arrested 36-year-old Atkinson after the crash and found Forney unharmed inside of the vehicle. Police also arrested 25-year-old Nikkia Cooper, who was also in the car and had blue pills “in her groin area,” according to the report.

Major Mike Smathers of CMPD told reporters earlier on Sunday that fire officials responded to a house fire and found a man and woman deceased inside of an east Charlotte home. Smathers also said that before fire officials arrived, police received a tip that a 2005 white Chevrolet Impala was seen leaving the residence. Officials began searching for Forney at that time.

Atkinson is Forney’s uncle, the Observer reports. They both lived in the home with Atkinson’s parents—the couple who police found dead. Charlotte officials plan to charge Atkinson for the double homicide.
