For the past several years, Orlando has been named the country’s number one city for frugality. But Floridians are stepping aside this year, with Washingtonians taking the thrifty crown, as coronated by Coupons.com anyway.
Quotient Technology Inc., the media company that runs the website and other retailer apps, delivered a record 2.4 billion digital coupons in 2016. It used that data to create the list of America’s Most Frugal Cities., with D.C. coming out on top by “clipping” 23 million coupons. The list’s top five also includes Orlando, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Dallas.
The folks behind the analysis speculate that “a bitter election” might have contributed. “People sought out digital coupons to stretch their budgets and, perhaps, to make themselves feel better.”
So there you have it: we’re cheap and bookish.
