A Secret Service agent has been suspended after meeting with a prostitute at a hotel in Maryland last week, according to CNN, which first reported the suspension on Wednesday. The officer was assigned to Vice President Mike Pence’s detail.

A secret service spokesperson said in a statement obtained by DCist that the agency is “aware of an alleged incident involving an off-duty Secret Service employee.” And officials from the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility are investigating the allegation “to determine the facts.”

A law enforcement source told CNN that police responded to a call from the hotel manager “who became suspicious of activity in one of the rooms.” After police saw him leaving the hotel, the agent was arrested and charged with solicitation. He also self-reported his arrest to the agency.

The officer had to surrender his weapons, was placed on administrative leave, and has no access to his security clearance or secret service facilities, according to the statement.

The Secret Service is “committed to ensuring that all employees are held to the highest level of professional and ethical standards of conduct,” the spokesperson said. “We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions.”
