Officials came to the 3200 block of 28th Street SE on Tuesday to find “evidence that a fire was attempted to be set” inside of a trap where the short-haired cat was confined, according to alliance spokesperson Matt Williams. The incident happened some time between 8 p.m. and midnight.
The cat is now in the alliance’s care, and there’s no description of a suspect at this time.
The group is asking for leads in the case and is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible “for this horrific act of animal cruelty,” according to a release.
People can contact the alliance’s law enforcement department by emailing arussell@humanerescuealliance.org or calling 202-723-5730.
