A woman told police that she was set on fire inside of a D.C. motel on Wednesday.
The incident took place at the Motel 6 near New York Avenue in Northeast around 8:30 p.m. Fire officials arrived at the scene to find the woman suffering from burns on her chest and neck, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department.
The woman told officials that she asked her boyfriend to leave the hotel room, but he instead threw alcohol on her and a bag of clothing that she was holding, according to the report. She said he then ignited the bag with a lighter.
Police found partially melted shopping bags, a burned bed sheet and female clothing, and a lighter inside of the room, according to the report. An officer also saw a partially empty container labeled rubbing alcohol on the floor next to the bed.
Officials are searching for the suspect who fled before police arrived. And the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
