A Red Line train’s doors opened on both sides after stopping at Rhode Island Avenue station this morning, exposing riders to the view below at the elevated stop.

Metro is investigating the incident, which took place shortly before 9 a.m., according to WMATA spokesperson Sherri Ly.

Riders posted video and photos on Twitter. It would have been a “long fall [if] someone stepped out,” one passenger pointed out.

But there were no injuries, according to Ly, adding that the train operator has been “removed from service” as officials investigate the cause of the incident.

And the six-car train was taken to a rail yard for inspection.
