What a time to be a duck in the District! In the latest coup for our waddling pals, Capitol Police helped rescue a mother duck and her brood of at least 10 ducklings from the roof of the Library of Congress’s Madison Building.
Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, tweeted out photos on Tuesday evening of the cardboard box full of furry ducklings.
Library of Congress staffers discovered the nest on the roof of the Madison Building and contacted Capitol Police.
“Our officers worked with DC Animal Care and Control staff to facilitate their access to the roof,” says Capitol Police spokesperson Eva Malecki. After the rescue, officers relocated the family to the Capitol Reflecting Pool, where they’ll be able to use the newly-installed duck ramp to get in and out of the water.
