The results are in: DC Water’s upgraded trash-collecting boats will be called Flotsam and Jetsam from now on.

The utilities company announced the names today for the pair of vessels, congratulating local journalist Amanda Kolson Hurley on her submission.

DC Water asked the public to suggest names earlier this week—Ana & Mac and Nacotchtank & Piscataway were also selected as finalists from more than 100 ideas, according to DC Water.

“Obviously there’s a lot of jokesters tweeting at us, but we want something people would be proud to call their own,” Vincent Morris, a spokesperson for DC Water told us about the submissions. “Boaty McBoatface isn’t the direction we want to go in.”

The skimmer boat cleaning program launched in 1992, and boats have collected about 300-500 tons of garbage from the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers each year.

Flotsam and Jetsam, priced at $484,000 each, have better motors and are the right height to make it under pedestrian bridges.

“These new modern boats will help us do more to make the river inviting and appealing to everyone,” said DC Water CEO George Hawkins today about the boats’ “christening,” according to the release.
