Shouk is opening its second location near Union Market next year, offering its Israeli-inspired pitas and plant-based bowls to veggie lovers in Northeast.

The fast-casual shop, which opened in Mount Vernon Square in 2016, is known for making vegetables and legumes the stars of dishes with Middle East flavors.

We included it on our list of best fast casual food in D.C. and our best burgers list for its hearty burger made with a blend of chickpea, black beans, lentils, oats, flax seed, cauliflower, mushrooms, beets, and more. “Even meat lovers won’t feel cheated with this one,” said our food editor Travis Mitchell.

Shouk also carries a small selection of wine and local beer.

The new location is slated to open in early 2018 at The Edison development in the “Union Market District,” a fast-developing area that’s also getting the addition of Politics & Prose bookstore this year.
