The D.C. Council today announced that Graham’s body will lie in state at the John A. Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) on Friday, June 23. Graham’s remains will arrive at noon, at which point a series of “elected officials, dignitaries, and special guests” will speak. The program will end at 5 p.m.
The following day, June 24, All Souls Unitarian Church (1500 Harvard Street NW) will host a viewing at 10 a.m., followed by a religious service at noon. After that, there will be food and soft drinks available in the multipurpose room at the church.
The council says that people can send cards or flowers to Bacon Funeral Home (3447 14th St NW).
Graham, the councilmember of Ward 1 from 1998 to 2015, died last week at age 71. He also served as the first executive director of Whitman-Walker Health, and as a member of the WMATA Board of Directors. After his defeat in the 2014 Democratic primary, he promoted “Rock Hard Sunday” as the special events director for The House, a Georgia Avenue strip club.
Earlier this month, he had been hospitalized with an intestinal ailment, reports The Washington Blade, and he returned to the hospital on June 8 after his condition worsened. He is survived by his partner, Christopher Watkins.
