DCist is striving to expand our coverage of the city’s music, arts, and food scenes, and we’re paying.

We’re looking to beef up our arts coverage with the addition of a few more freelance music writers. We are looking for someone to write the Weekly Music Agenda roundup, writers well-versed in the local hip-hop and classical music scenes, as well as reliable freelancers who can pitch creative ideas for more in-depth pieces focusing on the local music community. If you fit this bill, send an e-mail detailing your experience along with links to representative clips to sriram@dcist.com. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

We are also looking for a few more freelance visual arts writers, including a writer well-versed in the local arts scene beyond the big museums, someone who can navigate the local gallery scene and other independent arts projects. Freelancers who can pitch creative ideas for more in-depth pieces focusing on the local visual arts community are welcome. Send a message detailing relevant experience along with links to representative clips to pat@dcist.com.

DCist is also planning to expand food and drink coverage. Specifically, we are looking for freelance writers with flexible availability—including weekday mornings and afternoons—to cover restaurant openings, food events, and emerging trends. Candidates should have strong writing skills and be familiar with the local restaurant and/or bar scene. A keen sense of news judgement and the ability to pitch relevant and engaging stories is a must. Photography skills are a big plus. If this sounds like you, send an email detailing your experience along with links to representative clips and two to three pitches to food@dcist.com.

And finally, we are accepting pitches for both news stories and features that cut through the dull hum of the internet to help our readers better understand D.C. Quirky stories or hidden histories are just as welcome as serious topics. Have ideas for photo features or data visualizations? Send them our way, too. Email pitches for specific stories that you’re interested in reporting along with three clips to rachel@dcist.com.
