Police arrested a 29-year-old suspect on Thursday who they say stabbed a man several times after an argument inside of a Giant grocery store in Van Ness earlier that day.
An employee told Fox 5 News that the two men were co-workers who got into an altercation that began in the produce section. The weapon n the stabbing was a long knife typically used to cut watermelon.
The incident took place around 5:10 p.m. and the victim was stabbed in a storage room, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report. Police charged Frederick Allen Irby, of Southeast, with assault with intent to kill.
Officials took the victim to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The grocery store closed after the incident, and has since reopened. The case is still under investigation.
