In face of a heat index of around 100 today (with even more hellish heat headed our way this week), District denizens may want to cool down with a free icy treat. Today, in a well-timed promotion, 7-Eleven convenience stories across the country are continuing their annual tradition of giving away Slurpees on July 11, or 7/11.

According to the Associated Press, this is the 16th straight year 7-Eleven has given out its frozen sugary goodness. This year they’re also feting the chain’s 90th birthday, although the Slurpee was not introduced until 1966.

For those with real sugar stamina and immunity (or indifference) to brain freezes, Slurpee Week begins tomorrow and runs through July 18. Those who buy seven Slurpees through the 7-Eleven app will receive coupons for 11 free slushy drinks.
