F Street is trading one purveyor of affordable, minimalist casualwear for another.

Uniqlo fans have been waiting for this day for a long while: the Japanese retailer is setting up shop in downtown D.C., in a space previously occupied by American Apparel.

The Penn Quarter location is much smaller than a typical Uniqlo store, so it will be temporary, the Washington Business Journal reports. If the brand does well during its six-month lease, Uniqlo will look for a bigger space in the same area.

In addition to more than 800 stores in Japan, Uniqlo CEO Tadashi Yanai has said he’s working on building a global empire out of the casualwear brand, which has earned a bit of a cult following for its commitment to clean lines and affordable basics. The company also markets itself as having more ethical business practices than its fast fashion counterparts, claims which it has worked to bolster after being accused of human rights violations.

Washingtonians have been eagerly anticipating a shop of their own for near five years, with rumors that one would open in the high-end CityCenterDC complex. That never came to fruition, but a store did open in Tysons Corner last year.

In addition to the F Street location, which the brand has confirmed, it seems likely that the company is also planning to open a store in Union Station—given that they have job openings listed there, as WBJ points out.

Update 8/7: Popville has spotted plans that confirm a Uniqlo store is opening in the old Swatch location at Union Station.

Update 8/25:
The Uniqlo pop-up is opening on September 28 according to signage.
