President Barack Obama has been known to throw one heck of a party. Shaw is doing its best to honor that legacy with a giant outdoor party this evening on the occasion of his 56th birthday.

While neither Beyonce or Oprah is likely to put an appearance, Obama impersonator Larry Graves will be in attendance, with tunes spun by DJ Black President aka DJ Black Santa.

The evening will be filled with jams from the Spotify playlists that the president has released, life-sized cardboard cutouts of Barack and Michelle, and a giant birthday card. “Believe: The Barack Obama Story,” which tells the former president’s life story, will be screened, too, in a lot across the street from the Howard Theatre.

Shaw Main Streets and T Street Development are hosting the party with the participation of a slew of local businesses and non-profits.

Though former first family bought the Kalorama home they had been renting in June, they have kept a low-profile around town since leaving the White House. They are reportedly heading out to Martha’s Vineyard sometime this weekend, as became their custom during the past eight years.

The “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” celebration will take place at The Cornerstone Lot (625 T Street NW) from 7-10 p.m. (if it rains, the party will be moved to Saturday). It is free to attend, with food and drink available for purchase from local businesses.
