For the second night in a row, people are gathering in front of the White House to protest the events in Charlottesville and reject white supremacy.

Thousands of people showed up last night, taking up multiple blocks on Pennsylvania Avenue as they marched from the White House, past the Trump hotel with shouts of “shame,” and to the statue of a Confederate general in Judiciary Square.

“It’s a movement against white supremacy, it’s a movement against racism and bigotry,” said activist Eugene Puryear, with the Stop Police Terror Project.

Several hundred people have said they are planning to attend tonight’s gathering, which will likely follow a similar itinerary. Two college students write:

Join us as we take it to the White House and protest against the very administration that refuses to condemn white supremacists who’ve grown even bolder the past year.

Performances of song, poetry, and speech will occur during the White House demonstration, and we welcome anyone who has anything to say to come up! We are particularly urging those in marginalized groups to present, especially and specifically those in the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) and/or Jewish communities. This protest is about you and for you.

Depending on how the protest goes, we will be marching to the Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue and potentially to Judiciary Square where a statue of a Confederate general, Albert Pike, currently stands.
