Police say a man fatally stabbed his 81-year-old mother after a dispute inside of her Northeast home. He’s been arrested and charged for the homicide.

Officers responded to a call for a domestic violence assault and found Anne Alfredia Cook suffering from “numerous severe lacerations all over her face and body,” according to Metropolitan Police Department report. She was taken to a local hospital, but succumbed to her injuries.

The incident took place around 10:45 p.m. on August 12 inside of the mother’s home in the 5200 block of 4th Street NE.

The next day, police arrested her son, 51 year-old Derek Norman Cook, and charged with first degree murder while armed.

Anne Cook’s neighbors and friends told News4 that she was active in her community and known for taking walks. “She was just a person that you could not dislike,” neighbor said.
