It may or many not have been a hoax, but a subway rat dragging a pizza nonetheless crawled its way into New Yorker’s imagination, spiraling into sexy pizza rat costumes, pizza rat tattoos, a temporary pizza rat street sign, a pizza rat impersonator, and a pizza rat sequel. Now D.C. has our own answer to it: pizza squirrel.

“It was a cheese slice. He likes it simple,” says Reddit user olsendre who snapped the shots in Petworth.

While D.C. certainly has a rat problem, the city’s rodent of choice to grouse about, antagonize, and anthropomorphize has always been the squirrel.

Other Redditors reported their own crafty squirrel sightings, including watermelon squirrel and half eaten chicken wing squirrel. This reporter once watched as a squirrel picked out french fries from a carton. Anyway, meet pizza squirrel:
