Police say that a juvenile girl has been detained in the stabbing of a 13-year-old boy at a private school in Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say they have not arrested the 12-year-old girl because of her diplomatic status, according to a release. Detectives will consult about potential criminal charges with the Office of the Attorney General for D.C. and the U.S. State Department.
The attack took place at the British International School of Washington around 1 p.m. Officials took the victim, who was stabbed multiple times, to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The British International School is located in the 2100 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW. Students range from from pre-schoolers to high schoolers, with tuition costing up to $33,540 a year.
