With D.C.’s pools closed for the season, dogs are getting their day to splash around.
The District’s outdoor pools began closing in mid-August, with the last holdouts ending the (human) season on September 4. That means the waters are going to the dogs for the day, with the eighth annual doggie day swim on September 10.
It will be held at three pools—Upshur, Francis, and Randall—from 12-4 p.m. See here for photographic evidence of the fun in years past.
The event is free to attend, but all pooches need their Department of Health license (bring the original; photo copies aren’t allowed) and a tag.
Dogs must be well-behaved on the deck, owners can’t get in the pool with their pups, and they must be up to date on all vaccinations. Capacity is limited to 75 dogs apiece at Upshur and Randall, and 150 dogs at Francis.
The annual Doggie Day Swim takes place on Sunday from 12-4 p.m. at Upshur Pool (4300 Arkansas Avenue NW), Francis Pool (25th and N Street NW), and Randall Pool (South Capitol and I Sts. SW).
This post has been updated to reflect that the swim is occurring on Sunday, September 10, not Saturday.
