“You don’t mind me crashing, right?” Barack Obama asked a room full of high schoolers at McKinley Technology High School on Friday.

While he’s generally kept a low profile since leaving office, the former president paid a surprise visit to welcome students back to school.

“Hey, how’s it going everybody?” Obama said as the group of teenagers lost their minds. “The chancellor told me you guys were meeting, so I thought I’d stop by. How’s everybody doing? Is that my seat?”

In a statement to The Hill, Obama spokesman Keith Schiller said “President Obama is focused on supporting the next generation of leaders … today’s meeting is part of that ongoing conversation with young people.”

While Obama has generally stayed out of both the spotlight and the partisan fray since moving out of the White House, he did release a lengthy statement defending DACA last week.
