There is a celebration of legendary newscaster Jim Vance’s life at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, beginning at 10 a.m.
While the memorial will be open to the public from the National Cathedral’s nave, NBC 4 will also livestream the proceedings on television, its website, its app, and YouTube.
Vance spent nearly a half century at NBC 4, and became the District’s longest serving local news anchor. In May, he told viewers he was receiving cancer treatment. In late June, he attended the unveiling of the new Ben’s Chili Bowl mural, which featured his visage. “You cannot imagine my joy and my pride when I got the word a month or so ago that all y’all had voted poor ass little me to sit on Ben’s Chili Bowl’s wall,” he told the crowd.
Vance died on July 22 at the age of 75, news met with an outpouring of affection, appreciation, and sadness. A private memorial was held at the end of July.
