Passengers traveling between five stations on the Orange Line are experiencing delays during their Monday morning commute as crews work to a fix construction issue that began over the weekend.
Single tracking has reduced train service between New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood, and Minnesota Avenue stations. Instead of running every eight minutes, trains are operating every 16 minutes.
Metro officials said in a statement on Sunday that the delays are due to “unforeseen construction difficulties” involving mobile concrete plants that are used to pour new concrete pads under the rails. Over the weekend, work on the Orange Line caused trains to run every 20 minutes—the longest wait time throughout the system on Saturday and Sunday.
Crews are continuing the concrete project on Monday, according to the statement, and passengers should add an extra 10 to 15 minutes travel time to their commutes.
