D.C. Police arrested a 22-year-old woman who they say robbed one bank and tried to rob three others in less than an hour on Thursday morning.
Officials say Jessica Williams, of Suitland Md., went into a Bank of America in Edgewood around 9:56 a.m. and passed a bank teller a note that said, “This is a robbery. I want hundreds,” according to a police report. The teller told Williams that she didn’t have hundred dollar bills, then Williams took the note and walked out of the bank.
About two minutes later, Williams walked into a TD Bank on the same block of Rhode Island Avenue NE and passed a note asking for money, according to police. The bank teller gave Williams $500 and she left the building.
Police say that around 10:45 a.m., Williams showed up at Citibank near Mount Pleasant and gave a note to the bank teller that said “this is a robbery I need whats [sic] in the register.” The bank teller pressed an alarm and told two colleagues that Williams was trying to rob the bank. Williams then left the building without getting a dime.
Williams’ last robbery attempt took place at a nearby Wells Fargo in the 3300 block of 14th Street NW around 10:49 a.m., according to police. She gave a teller the note that demanded all of the $100 and $50 bills “before anyone gets hurt.” The teller refused and Williams fled the scene.
As she was getting into a car, police arrived outside of Citibank and two employees identified Williams as “the one that tried to rob the bank,” the police report reads.
She was arrested by Third District police officers and FBI agents and charged with one count of bank robbery and three counts of attempted bank robbery.
