People visiting the National Mall are getting a reminder today of infamous words spoken by Donald Trump.
“When you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything. Grab ’em by the pussy,” Trump told now-disgraced television host Billy Bush during a break from an Access Hollywood segment in 2005.
Nearly a year after The Washington Post released the footage, feminist group UltraViolet is airing it for 12 hours on a giant screen in view of the White House, at the northwest quadrant of the Washington Monument.
“Last October, we learned that the now president of the United States is a proud sexual predator,” the group said in a Facebook post. Now the president is “actively dismantling protections for sexual assault survivors and he’s still openly assaulting and harassing women,” said the group, which is also livestreaming from the mall.
Even in the time since the video began playing on the National Mall, the Trump administration announced it was rolling back rules that mandated free birth control coverage for women.
In response to the footage and public outrage, Trump released a couple non-apologies and said the video was a “distraction” and “locker room banter.” About a month later, he was elected president. Bush was axed from his new gig as a host of The Today Show.
At noon today, UltraViolet plans to host a peaceful rally at Lafayette Square Park called the “Rally to Grab Back.”
“Trump does not get to brush this under the rug,” the group said. The video will play through 9 p.m.
