University of Maryland police are investigating three separate acts of vandalism involving a swastika and other offensive markings found at a dining hall on campus.

Police responded to the hate-bias incidents inside of a men’s restroom at Ellicott Dining Hall on September 28, October 7, and October 9, according to a UMD Police Department release.

The markings in September included “offenses drawings and language” on the bathroom wall, according to officials. The first report in October was for “an offensive phrase” and a swastika, and the most recent report included “offense writing.” Officials did not provide further details on the drawings or writings.

As an investigation continues, officials are asking for the public’s help by calling 301-405-3555, emailing investigations@umpd.umd.edu, or leaving an anonymous tip with information connected to any of the three cases.

The request for assistance comes less than a week after officials served 52-year-old Ronald Alfred Sr. a summons in connection to a swastika that was reported on a trash cart outside of a residence hall on September 27. Alfred was charged with one count of malicious destruction of property and another count related to disturbing operations at the school. He’ll appear in court next month.

In response to Alfred’s charges, Doron Ezickson, Anti-Defamation League Washington, D.C. regional director, praised UMD police in a statement “for taking this case seriously and for their thoughtful and prompt response to this incident.”

UMD police say they’re offering $2,000 to anyone who can provide successful identification of the person responsible for this round of “despicable acts.”
