A 20-year-old neighborhood restaurant is raising money to reopen after a fire broke out at its storefront in April.
The folks at Fish in the Hood, which we’ve called one of the best places in D.C. for comfort food, have raised about $1,600 toward their $10,000 goal to renovate the space on Georgia Avenue NW.
The family-owned business has been in staple in Petworth, adjusting for the changing demographics and landscape in recent years.
On April 14, one of the restaurant’s deep friers began “flaming like a blowtorch” and the fire eventually spread all the way up to the ceiling, according to the GoFundMe page. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
While insurance covers part of the renovation, which includes getting more durable deep friers, the owners say they “need help from the community to make up the difference.”
