Even as norms continue to erode, frustration with motorcades is one time-honored tradition that endures during the Trump administration. But I get the feeling that this cyclist’s flip of the bird, captured by photographer Brendan Smialowski, might have to do with more than feeling inconvenienced by the convoy of vehicles sharing the road.

After another visit to his Sterling, Va. golf club on Saturday afternoon, President Donald Trump and his motorcade were en route back to D.C. The pool reporter described the scene that followed:

POTUS’s motorcade departed the Trump National Golf Club at 3.12pm, passing two pedestrians, one of whom gave a thumbs down sign. Then it overtook a female cyclist, wearing a white top and cycling helmet, who responded by giving the middle finger. The motorcade had to slow and the cyclist caught up, still offering the finger, before turning off in a different direction.

Voice of America White House Bureau Chief Steve Herman, who witnessed the cyclist’s response, says the cyclist first flipped the bird shortly after the motorcade left the golf club and again at the traffic light by Great Falls Center.

It’s unknown whether Trump got the message. “He had on reading glasses so he may not have been looking out the window,” Herman tweeted.

The cyclist has not yet been identified, despite offers of free beer and morning television interviews.

After complaints that the incident with the cyclist never should have been included in the pool report, Herman said to consider the response to the photo: “the cyclist’s act has certainly generated an emotional reaction among many.”

While this biker has gotten a lion’s share of the attention, a video posted to the D.C. subreddit last week shows another cyclist giving Vice President Mike Pence’s motorcade the finger as it drove by.

The Trump administration’s motorcades aren’t unique in their ability to garner middle fingers, though. As Hillary Clinton’s motorcade went through Kissimmee, Fl. in August 2016, Getty photographers captured at least two people giving it “a vulgar gesture,” per the caption.

And it turns out, there’s something even cheekier than a middle finger: a full moon. On October 19, Trump’s motorcade was driving on Connecticut Avenue towards the Embassy of the State of Kuwait. Here’s what happened next, from the pool reporter:

Just shy of Tilden Street, several of the riders in the press van reported seeing a man “mooning” the motorcade from one of the lower floors of an apartment building. One of our colleagues stated it was a “full moon.”

(Un)fortunately, no photographic evidence of this event has surfaced … yet.
