The week after a holiday always seems longer than it should, so you’ll understand that we’ve spent the last few days making weekend plans when we should have been working. When Friday finally arrives, we’re excited to party in the name of art, Bastille Day, and the World Cup final.

FRIDAY, JULY 13

PROMENADE: Prom night has a purpose at A Midsummer Right’s Dream, a pro-choice fundraiser at Rock and Roll Hotel. Lady Parts Justice League is throwing the themed party, which will include tunes from D.C. band Turtle Recall, a silent auction, activity booths from Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, and hopefully no teen angst. (Rock and Roll Hotel, 8 p.m., $18)

HAMILTON, SCHMAMILTON: Arena Stage is the latest to jump on the movie-to-musical trend with Dave, an adaptation of the 1993 comedy in which a man who looks a lot like the United States president must impersonate POTUS after he suffers a stroke. Not as beloved a property as Mean Girls, sure, but this show boasts impressive talent nonetheless, including director Tina Landau (most recently of Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants musical), former Waitress star Drew Gehling as Dave, and a screenplay from the late Thomas Meehan, who also wrote Annie and co-wrote Hairspray and The Producers. Performances begin Friday. You don’t want to miss the next Dear Evan Hansen, do you? (Arena Stage, through August 19, various times, $117-$140)

LAUGH IT UP: Improv Pop-Up is, in fact, not how you win a game of millennial Mad-Libs, but a monthly series of improv comedy shows taking over the top floor of Colony Club in Park View. This month’s lineup includes the groups Bottom Shelf (which purports to “sit you down [and] pour you a drink.” We sense audience participation afoot here), Runaway Train (an “indie improv troupe”), and Huggy Smalls: The Notorious H.U.G. (which specializes in long-form improv). (Colony Club, 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m., $10)

SEEN AND BE UNSEEN: If you ask us (we know you didn’t, but anyway) the Smithsonian American Art Museum is D.C.’s coolest underrated art museum. (Seriously, have you seen “Electronic Superhighway?”) SAAM’s cool quotient skyrockets Friday, when Brightest Young Things throws one of its signature bashes in the museum’s halls. The party features an open bar, a stacked DJ lineup, bites from Pow Pow, Killa Cakes, and other D.C. favorites, and a chance to peek at the new SAAM exhibit “Trevor Paglen: Sites Unseen.” (Smithsonian American Art Museum, 8:30 a.m.-12 a.m., $40-$60)

MORE: White Ford Bronco (The Bullpen, 7-10 p.m., $18), Summer Rooftop Silent Disco (Rooftop at the Embassy Row Hotel, 8 p.m.-11 p.m., $10-$20), Brewmaster Tour featuring Atlas Brew Works (Heurich House Museum, 5 p.m., $30)

SATURDAY, JULY 14

BATTER UP: Heads up: It’s nearly time to switch from World Cup fever back to baseball fever. Get back in the spirit at this family day of all things baseball at the Library of Congress, in honor of their current Baseball Americana exhibit. There’s baseball-themed story time, a play about the history of African American baseball players, and a chance to try your hand at vintage baseball. (The Library of Congress, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., FREE)

RUNNIN’ PRETTY: Speaking of sort-of All-Star Game-adjacent events, there’s still time to sign up for the Color Run 5K organized by Nike. Because when you’re sweating bullets, nothing covers it up like a dab (or an explosion) of paint powder. (Play Ball Park, 8 a.m., $47.99, $42.99 per person for a group of four or more runners)

VIVE LA FRANCE: Nothing says “remember that time the French stormed a notorious prison and set off their revolution” quite like a party. Celebrate at Le Diplomate with crafts, face-painting, and balloon artistry, all to the sounds of a live accordionist. The glacé cart will be parked and offering ice cream on the sidewalk. Come back from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. for the Bastille Noir party, which promises a drag show and frozen cocktails. (Le Diplomate, 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., (FREE)

GIRLS ALOUD: Now in its 11th year, Girls Rock! DC spends a week with D.C.’s coolest girls ages 8-18 and helps them form bands that write, practice, and perform original songs. Check out their morning showcase at the 9:30 Club to see the next generation of Rolling Stone cover stars take on D.C.’s most beloved stage before they’re old enough to vote. (9:30 Club, 11 a.m., $12, kids 8 and under free)

MORE: Argentina Heritage Polo Tournament (Muldoon Fields at Summerhill Polo, 2 p.m.-8 p.m., $25-$300), Yoga Fundraiser for Families at the Border (Washington National Cathedral, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., donations accepted), National Symphony Orchestra: Beethoven’s Ninth (Wolf Trap Filene Center, 8:15 p.m., $25-$50), Wale (Bliss Nightclub, 10 p.m., $20-$40)

SUNDAY, JULY 15

HOW NICE: Every year, Nice Jewish Boys DC, the community group for gay, bisexual, and trans Jewish men in the city, picks its nicest Jewish boy at the Mr. Nice Jewish Boy Pageant. Four perfectly nice boys are in the running this year, and will demonstrate what are surely some nice talents and, for the first time, a choreographed dance number, at U Street Music Hall. It’s not just the very nice crown at stake: Raffle prizes include gift certificates to Dacha Beer Garden, Milk Bar, SoulCycle, Duke’s Grocery, and Vida Fitness. (U Street Music Hall, 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m., $15-$30)

TO MARKET, TO MARKET: Part shopping destination, part block party, The Coconut Market gathers vendors from tropical regions offering clothing, jewelry, art, and more, including Temidire women’s clothing, Hippie Karma‘s natural wellness products, and Zvuva minimalist clay jewelry. Browse the wares, or just go for the DJs and drinks on hand. This might also be the only shopping experience that comes with complimentary hookah (from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.). (Studio 52, 12 p.m.-5:30 p.m., $5 entry)

ONE LAST KICK: Brand-new Wharf spot La Vie may look like a pristine, upscale dinner destination, but at its World Cup viewing party on Sunday, it’ll likely play host to something rowdier. The final match kicks off at 11 a.m.: We don’t think we need to tell you that’s not too early to grab a frozen drink. (La Vie, 10 a.m., FREE, register here)

MORE: From Dresden to Diaghilev: Forty Years of Exhibition Design (National Gallery of Art, 2 p.m., FREE), Sleeping With Sirens: Chill Out Summer Acoustic Tour Featuring Special Guest The Rocket Summer (Sixth & I, 7 p.m., $25-$30), Yoga and Tunes (Pacers Running, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., $10).
