It’s a good weekend to stretch your legs (but not your wallet) with dance, yoga, and a full moon stroll.

Marvel at history and the stars
“Mercury is in retrograde!” exclaim half of your loudest Facebook friends. “It’s Leo season!” scream the other. That’s great, but for celestial happenings you can actually, yanno, see, mark tonight’s full moon in your calendar. (Before you ask, no, we’re not going to be able to see that eclipse.) Better yet, sign up for the full moon walking tour, organized by the Washington D.C. History and Culture Meetup group. The three-mile jaunt kicks off at the World War II Memorial, and covers most of the major monuments on the Mall in a loop. For fun, the event page specifies, participants will write their dream vacation spot on their nametags. How many people do you want to bet will write “the moon?”

Stretch … your Instagram account
Instagram influencers are always going on fancy yoga retreats amid beautiful flora, doing downward dog with verdant wildlife in the background. But as you can guess, there’s no way to put those swanky experiences on a free calendar. The weekly yoga at the United States Botanic Garden, however, is pretty close—close enough to take a photo of your headstand with a slew of flowers in the background, anyway. Bring along a mat and a water bottle to this free class, led by WithLoveDC. Who needs #sponcon?

Celebrate mail time
Did you know that the U.S. Postal Service has a mascot, Owney the mail dog (Be warned: He has a surprisingly tragic story)? You have him to thank for this weekend’s family festival at the Postal Museum, dedicated to pups. There’ll be dog-themed crafts to make, stories to hear, and a chance for kids to try out what it’s like to be a mail dog for themselves. Local pet shelters will be on hand offering adoption fairs, but training those dogs and cats to fetch the mail every day is up to you.
National Postal Museum, Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Get down
Every year, the Kennedy Center dedicates a day to grooving indoors and out. National Dance Day kicks off with a free yoga class, and continues with dance lessons and performances from tap, salsa, ballet, hip-hop, and modern dance pros. Not sure where to start? We suggest watching the instructions for the official routine for the event, set to Kylie Minogue’s new single. We’re no experts, but it looks pretty complicated! Get practicing.

Bring your favorite stories to life
Channel your child’s inner star at the Favorite Stories workshop series at D.C. Public Libraries. Bethesda children’s theater Imagination Stage will be on hand to guide kids ages 6-10 to bring their favorite stories to life with acting and props. Who knows, you might find yourself with a budding auteur on your hands.
