Metro passengers are currently riding out (ha) two major 24/7 improvement projects, one on the Red Line, and the other on the Orange, Blue, and Silver.
Needless to say, that has made the last few weekends an even bigger headache than usual for revelers who depend on Metro. This weekend is no exception: the Rhode Island and Brookland Ave stations on the Red Line remain closed, and the Blue line is still running limited service between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington Cemetery. Trains on Orange and Silver are single tracking and running every 20 minutes (at least no stations on these lines are closed this weekend).
If you happen to live on Green or Yellow, you’re in luck: service is mostly normal this weekend.

Red Line
Buses replace trains between NoMa-Gallaudet and Fort Totten
Red Line trains operate:
Between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet every 8 minutes 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Between Fort Totten and Glenmont every 10 minutes 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
After 9:00 p.m. trains on both segments of the Red Line operate every 15 minutes.
Stations closed: Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood and BrooklandAlternate travel options:
Free shuttle buses will operate between NoMa-Gallaudet, Rhode Island Ave, Brookland and Fort Totten. Please allow 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
MetroExtra Route G9 (Metrobus) operates during all hours of rail service providing a connection between Rhode Island Ave and Downtown DC/Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station.Customers traveling to Glenmont from NoMa-Gallaudet, Union Station and Judiciary Sq are strongly encouraged to ride a Shady Grove train to Gallery Place, then use the Green Line to connect back to the Red Line at Fort Totten.
Work performed: Major structural repair work, including rebuilding of deteriorated platforms to improve ADA accessibility, at Rhode Island Ave; rail and fastener renewal in other parts of the shutdown area
To allow for shuttle bus and last train connections, the last inbound (Fort Totten-bound) train will depart stations between Glenmont and Takoma 30 minutes earlier than usual.
Orange Line
Major track work continues; trains every 20 minutes
Continuous single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian to allow for infrastructure rebuilding.
Last train:
New Carrollton-bound customers who normally ride the last Blue Line train between Metro Center and Potomac Avenue instead need to travel on the last Silver Line train and transfer at Stadium-Armory as usual.Major Orange, Silver, Blue Line track work: continuous single tracking through August 26

Continuous single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian to allow for infrastructure rebuilding.
Last train:
Largo Town Center-bound customers who normally travel on the last Blue Line train between Metro Center and Largo Town Center will instead need to travel using the last Silver Line train.
The last Wiehle-Reston East-bound Silver Line train will depart Largo Town Center 4 minutes earlier than normal.

Blue Line
Regular weekend intervals between Franconia-Springfield & Arlington Cemetery only
As a result of major track work on the Orange and Silver lines, Blue Line trains operate between Franconia-Springfield & Arlington Cemetery only.
Customers traveling to/from Downtown DC should use the Yellow Line at L’Enfant Plaza. For continuing service to Largo Town Center, transfer to the Silver Line at L’Enfant Plaza.
Last train:
There is no last Blue Line train during the major track work.
Franconia-Springfield-bound customers who normally use a Blue Line train at Rosslyn must instead 1.Use the last Largo-bound Silver Line train, which will depart stations 4 minutes earlier than normal, to L’Enfant Plaza. 2. Take the last Huntington-bound Yellow Line train to King Street and 3. Transfer to the waiting Blue Line train.Largo Town Center-bound Blue Line customers between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon who normally transfer to a Blue Line train at Rosslyn must instead take a Yellow Line train and transfer to the last Silver Line train at L’Enfant Plaza.

Last train:
The last Yellow Line train to Fort Totten will instead travel only to Mt Vernon Square. Customers traveling beyond Mt Vernon Square should use the Green Line.
