One of D.C.’s most original institutions, Mr. Yogato, says it is looking for a new owner, a would-be Charlie Bucket to take over the quirky chocolate factory frozen yogurt shop in October.

For the “worthy yogurt enthusiast,” the price is a mere $1, the Dupont Circle shop announced on Facebook on Tuesday.

We’ve reached out to learn more (and confirm the seriousness of the offer), and will update when we hear back.

Mr. Yogato has earned a devoted following over the years for its extensive “Rules of Yogato,” a sort of 10 commandments of charmingly ridiculous discounts (see #10: “Dress up like 80’s tennis legend Bjorn Borg and receive 25% off. Sing “I’m Too Sexy” by RSF in his Swedish accent to bump it up to 50%”) and lifetime offers (anyone who ordered a yogurt for 30-consecutive days won a flavor named after themself).

Steve Davis, a bona fide rocket scientist, set up shop at 17th and P streets in 2008 after being disappointed by the city’s lack of froyo options. That changed rapidly; there were a few years there where you couldn’t go more than few blocks without seeing a new Pinkberry cropping up. But Mr. Yogato outlasted nearly all of them.

And Mr. Yogato, the anthropomorphic mascot presumably representing Davis, says he wants to see the legacy live on. “Email info@mryogato.com if interested!”
