The Orange, Blue, and Silver lines continue to be a travel nightmare this weekend: The Blue Line will end service at Arlington Cemetery, as has been the case for the last several weeks. The Farragut West and Mcpherson Square stations will be closed entirely, and Metro Center station will only serve the Red Line. The track work will address a tight bend in the metrorail system between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations, which needs repairs.
Also, we are still chugging along on the 45-day Red Line shutdown, which has closed the Rhode Island and Brookland stations until September 3.
Shuttles will replace trains at all closed stations.
Even the Yellow and Green lines aren’t problem-free this weekend: trains are running every 15 minutes on both lines, and the Green Line is single tracking from L’Enfant Plaza to Navy Yard to allow for cable installation.
But take heart: the end is near. August 26 is the last day of the 24/7 repair work happening on the Orange, Blue, and Silver, which has resulted in continuous single tracking every day and station closures for two weekends.
