It’s not just you. It really has been rainier than usual in D.C., both this summer and this year more broadly.
On average, the District gets 39.74 inches of rainfall every year—the precise amount of rain that D.C. has already gotten in 2018, according to Capital Weather Gang. Yes, that means with four months to go, we’ve already gotten a year’s worth of rainfall. CWG notes that during July and August, the city saw 14.56 inches of rain, putting the two-month span into the top ten wettest two-month stretches in District history.
While folks with galoshes have certainly seen a return on their investment, the deluge has led to flooding, outages, and other woes. Flood damage forced the closure of Eliot-Hine Middle School on Wednesday after Tuesday’s storm, and the crumbling and closure of the National Zoo bike path in July, to name a few.
