Celebrate some surprisingly not-stormy weather with dance, jazz, art, and A-line dresses—all for free.

See (and hear) some dance
As part of the Hip Hop Theater Festival, the Millennium Stage performance of SOLE Defined traces the history of the genre. Part Stomp, part step group, the show’s dancers use tap shoes, roller skates, sand, and live DJ accompaniment to create a performance that’s as aural as it is visual.

Figure out what it’s all about … or at least try to
In his latest exhibit, D.C.-based artist Maps Glover asks “What do we leave behind when we depart this earth?” To work through it, he’s turning the storefront of Transformer into a sort of chapel, and hosting weekly healing “services” with live musical accompaniment. You can check out What We Leave Behind: In The Name of Art Saturdays through October 20, starting with this weekend’s opening reception.
Transformer, Saturday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Take advantage of the surprise sunshine
Though plenty of planned outdoor festivals raised a white flag following the pre-Florence panic earlier this week, Glover Park Day is holding tight to its Sept. 15 date (having already been rescheduled from June). The 29th-annual fest includes live music, kids activities, a dog obstacle course (!), a raffle, and food and crafts available for sale.
3600 Calvert St. NW, Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Dress up for a trip to the zoo
Now that it’s finally not immediately-sweat-through-your-tank-top weather, it might as well be chic-gloves-and-a-sensible-hat season. Pull out your vintage trunk for Pin-Up Day at the Zoo, part of a national event in which a gaggle of patrons decked out in 1940s-1960s attire gaze upon the animals. All ages are welcome. If you want to know more, D.C.’s chapter of vintage-lovers, Monumental Pinups and Dapper District, hosts regular events. The zoo trip is scheduled for Sunday: Monitor the Facebook event page for rain delay updates.

Catch the OTHER jazz night
Jazz in the Garden may have ended for the year, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of opportunities to hear trombone al fresco. Head to the Parks at Walter Reed for its weekly Jazz in the Parks, featuring a rotating lineup of local musicians. Bring out some lawn chairs and blankets for an afternoon of live music.
