The FBI probe into sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh wraps up on Wednesday, and we’re likely to see a vote late this week. In anticipation of the vote, protesters are ready with (potentially) plenty of starpower.
The Women’s March—which was heavily involved in protesting Kavanaugh’s nomination at the hearings last week—is helping organize a march from the E. Barrett Prettyman U.C. Courthouse (where Kavanaugh currently presides) to the Supreme Court. The march will begin at 12:30 p.m. on October 4, and will possibly include celebrities like Lena Dunham, Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Gyllenhaal, John Legend, and Esperanza Spalding.
The website for the event (which was set up by the Party Majority PAC), lists nearly three dozen celebrities, but reads: “We are standing in solidarity with all, ready to protest this Thursday. We are with you from our hearts and minds. We will not all be in D.C. but ask you to walk out wherever you are.”
The event is called Bravery Is Contagious, and organizers on Twitter say there will be a concert after the march at around 7 p.m. where many of the celebrities on the list will show up.
Winnie Wong, a Women’s March organizer, tells DCist that they expect most of the people on the list will show up, but things are still fluid since everything has been organized in the last 48 hours. She also says attendees can look forward to “surprise guests” during the march. Wong says they anticipate several thousand marchers will attend, and that protest events will continue throughout the day and evening (you can check Twitter for updates, as Wong says their exact location will depend on crowd sizes, civil disobedience actions, the news cycle, and other factors).
In addition to the Thursday march, there will also be a Wednesday evening vigil at the Supreme Court to protest Kavanaugh’s potential appointment.
