A security guard at FOX 5’s Friendship Heights building shot a suspected intruder on Monday afternoon.
The news was first reported by FOX 5 and confirmed by D.C. police.
“It looks like someone was trying to get into the building and a security guard had to discharge their weapon,” D.C. police spokesperson Kristen Metzger told DCist. Police are currently on the scene, she adds.
The alleged intruder was taken to a local hospital and is now in stable condition, according to police. It appears that no one else was injured, according to FOX 5 reporters on the scene.
According to her official Twitter account, Mayor Muriel Bowser is meeting with Police Chief Peter Newsham to discuss the events further.

According to a press conference with Police Commander Melvin Gresham, the suspect was not armed when he attempted to break into the building. He kicked through two plexiglass doors to gain access to the lobby shortly after 3 p.m.
From the lobby, a person needs a key card to enter the rest of the building. FOX 5 reports that the security guard, who was armed, tried to defuse the situation by using non-lethal restraint, which did not work. Then, the security guard shot the suspect at least once in the upper body, according to the news station.
Police have identified the suspect, but have not released his name. Gresham declined to say the current location of the security guard.
FOX 5 has posted video showing the alleged suspect kicking the two glass doors to enter the building:
