Michael Cera is an endless fountain of losery gifs, a truth not lost on rapper Michael Christmas. In “Michael Cera” and tracks from 2018 album Role Model, the Boston artist tosses out constant references to pop culture—Beyonce, Hank Hill, Andre the Giant—in self-conscious, whimsical rap. See him with Vintage Lee and Jett Bailey at Songbyrd. Show 8 p.m. $15-$50. All ages, inaccessible venue.

Look Vibrant (Photo by Max Taeuschel )
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27
The music Look Vibrant serves up is anything but ordinary, taking unexpected harmonic, instrumental, and lyrical turns at any given moment. Case in point? “Cauliflower,” which weaves in and out of time, opts for unconventional scales and is so layered that it’s a bit of a magic-eye painting for the ear. See the Montreal-based band at Songbyrd. Show 8 p.m. FREE. ALL ages, inaccessible venue.
Nineties R&B star Keith Sweat—of “I Want Her,” “Nobody” and (lest we forget) “Be Your Santa Claus” fame—comes to The Theater at MGM National Harbor with Major. Show 8 p.m. $54-$80+. All ages, accessible venue.
If the recent fracas between alt-country singer-songwriter Ryan Adams and ex-wife Mandy Moore has got you down, turn to Ruston Kelly. The debut LP of the Nashville singer (and hubby of country star Kacey Musgraves) has already inspired comparisons to the Whiskeytown-frontman-now-solo-artist, and holds up against anything Adams has put out. See him with Katie Pruitt at Jammin Java. Show 8 p.m. $13.75-$26.75. All ages, accessible venue.
New York-based vocalist Svetlana, who grew up in Moscow, brings her breezy jazz sensibility to Twins Jazz with the New York Swing Collective. Shows 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. $15. All ages, inaccessible venue.

As part of the Flash of the Spirit music festival, spotlighting international genres, Richmond band Yeni Nostalji brings its laid-back, old-school Turkish pop to Rhizome DC in a lineup with Matizwave and Time is Fire. Show 7:30 p.m. $10. All ages, inaccessible venue.
Caleb Hawley (Photo by Evan Osborne)
MONDAY, OCTOBER 29
On Caleb Hawley‘s recent EP, Sex Tape (which was engineered to accompany the aforementioned activity), you can almost hear the drool as the Minneapolis-bred, Prince-esque vocalist covers Hot Chocolate’s “You Sexy Thing” and a very saucy version of Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On.” But it’s his rendition of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” that somehow feels the most inspired. See him with Dopesmoothies at Songbyrd. Show 8 p.m. $12-$14. All ages, inaccessible venue.
